Several studies in the past five years examined the impact of food insecurity on memory, dementia, and cognitive decline among older adults. 12 3 None of these studies have directly addressed Alzheimer’s disease (AD) to determine if food insecurity is a risk factor. Yet, it has been proven that diet plays an important role in the prevention and management of AD. 4
June 2025, The Journal of Research in Health Sciences (JRHS) published the results of a study conducted by the Hamadan University of Medical Sciences in Iran that specifically examined the association between food insecurity and the risk of AD.
