A Vaccine for Alzheimer's?
June 16, 2026
The University of New Mexico (UNM) has developed a vaccine engineered to clear tau protein from the brains of people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The motivation for developing this vaccine is a belief that targeting tau may be more successful than reducing levels of amyloid beta. Researchers at UNM based this theory on the less than perfect performance of lecanemab and donanemab. Both of these drugs are designed to slow the progression of AD by reducing levels of amyloid beta.
